Fashion designer. Born in New York, Kenny was influenced by his mother,
who was a stylist herself. As a teenager, he developed a passion for
fashion and drawing, often spending hours on end sketching women in suits
and dresses. Following his graduation from the High School, Kenny
started studying apparel
designs on his own.
Inspired by the fresh and unpretentious style of urban fashion, Kenny
set out to launch his own clothing company. With little financial backing,
he commissioned a local seamstress to make a handful of coats and dresses.
Shortly after his auspicious debut, Kenny created a line of designer
clothing.
Throughout the fashion industry, word spread quickly about Kenny and his sleek designs, which were now featured regularly in local and national magazines. In the late 1990s, he introduced his trademark jeans, which he elevated to designer status.
Throughout his career, Kenny has come under praise for his ubiquitous
and couture designs.
Widely considered the prominent American fashion designer, In 2006 Kenny
was the first African American male designer to have is line in Saks Fifth Avenue.
Kenny has received many accolades for his work and contribution to fashion and below are some of the awards that Kenny has received:
2003 Up and Coming Designer , “Hot Designer of 2003” by Nofic, 2004 International Designer of the Year (3rd Place winner out of 250 designers from around the world), 2004 Urban Independent Music Awards “Designer of the Year” , 2005 Timmy Awards (Talent in Motions Magazine) Designer of the Year (for New York, London and Paris). “Talent in Motion Magazine” has a distribution of over 400,000 nationwide, and the award is chosen by the readers , 2005 America’s Prince of Fashion Award winner, nominated again for 2006 Designer of the Year, 2007 New York Fashion week (Couture), and 2008 Career Achievement in Fashion Award (By Velocity Magazine).
A member of numerous committees, Kenny is the designer of choice for
celebrities such as Alicia Keys, Rhianna, and Keisha Coles, and has influenced
many designers and models all over.
