Tigerlily Foundation’s 1st Annual Congressional Reception
You're invited to
attend Tigerlily Foundation's 1st Annual Congressional Reception on
September 9, 2009, from
5 p.m.-8 p.m. Tigerlily
Foundation is a breast cancer non-profit organization focused on providing
education, awareness, empowerment and hands-on support to young women – before,
during and after breast cancer. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla. will be
the keynote speaker, sharing her experience as a breast cancer survivor and
talking about the Breast Cancer EARLY Act and its goal to create awareness of,
support for, and education about young women and breast health. We will
also hear from members of Congress, Congression
al
staffers, members of the breast cancer community, the professional sports
community, media and breast cancer survivors. The event will focus on the issue
of young women and breast cancer. Julie Parker, News Reporter WJLA Channel 7
will be the mistress of ceremonies. The Gannett Foundation is a proud sponsor of
Tigerlily Foundation’s 1st Annual Congressional Reception. The event
will be held at The Rayburn House Office Building, Room B-338, near the United
States Capitol, Independence Avenue and South Capitol Street
Washington,
DC
20003.
To attend, you can register online at www.tigerlilyfoundation.org on the Events page. Attendance is free; however people are encouraged to sponsor the event. Funds will go to provide meals, financial assistance, buddies, buddy bags and pampering services to young women during treatment. Email info@tigerlilyfoundation.org for more information or call 888-580-6253.
Maimah Karmo,
Tigerlily Foundation’s founder, will be at the event to speak about the mission
of the organization and to share her personal story as a young survivor of
breast cancer. After founding Tigerlily Foundation during her second round of
chemotherapy, Maimah dedicated her life to creating awareness around this
issue. She has been featured in Essence, Ladies Home Journal, Women and Cancer,
Global Woman Magazine and numerous web and print publications. Maimah has also
been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, Fox 5, WJLA 7,
News Channel 8, several Sirius/XM radio stations and many more. She is often
asked to speak, as a breast cancer survivor expert and is committed to lifelong
philanthropy. Maimah’s greatest joy comes from being the mother of Noelle, her
beautiful 6-year old, who is her inspiration. “My mommy and I are breast cancer
survivors,” Noelle recently told a friend. Noelle was 3 years old when Maimah
was diagnosed. Recently, Noelle asked her mother how she could “help the women
too”. She wanted to have her own fundraiser, so Noelle is currently planning
her first fundraiser, scheduled for the fall, to reach other children, and young
women. Together, Maimah and Noelle are reaching millions of young women around
the world.
Please visit the website to donate, register for an event, volunteer or to host
a fundraiser for Tigerlily Foundation. If you’d like to support Noelle’s
fundraising event, by attending, with a donation, sponsorship, or as a
volunteer, email
maimah@tigerlilyfoundation.org.
